Lynx: How to add Z-Wave device

To add a Z-Wave device to a Honeywell LYNX Touch panel, you must place the panel into “inclusion mode” and then activate the pairing function on the Z-Wave device itself.

Prerequisite: The system requires the L5100-ZWAVE module to be installed for Z-Wave functionality.

Add a Z-Wave Device

  1. Access the Automation Menu: From the L5210 home screen, select the Automation icon.
  2. Navigate to Tools: On the automation screen, press the down arrow if needed, then select Tools.
  3. Enter Inclusion Mode: At the “Device Management” screen, select Include Devices. The panel will display “Entering Inclusion Mode. Please Wait…” and then “Ready to include device”.
  4. Activate the Device: Within one minute, trigger the Z-Wave device’s function or pairing button. The specific method depends on the device (e.g., press a button three times quickly, turn a light switch on and off, or enter a PIN for a lock).
  5. Confirm Inclusion: The panel should display “Device Found! Please Wait” and then the device’s information, confirming successful enrollment.
  6. Exit: After successfully adding the device, you can repeat the process for other devices or press the back arrow/Home button to exit.

Important Considerations

  • Location: For the initial pairing, it is recommended that the device be included within 3 feet of the LYNX panel to ensure a strong connection.
  • Exclusion First: If a device was previously used on another Z-Wave network (even a factory test network), you may need to run the Exclude Devices process in the L5210’s Tools menu first. The exclusion process is similar to the inclusion process.
  • Calibration Time: After including a device, allow the system 3 to 5 minutes to fully calibrate the communication paths.
  • Remote Control: With a compatible monitoring plan that includes home automation, you can control your Z-Wave devices remotely via the Total Connect 2.0 app.
