An ECP (Enhanced Console Protocol) error on a Honeywell Vista 128BPT security system means the main control panel has lost communication with a connected device, such as a keypad, touchscreen (like a Tuxedo or 6272/6280), or communicator. To fix it, check the four-wire data bus connections, verify device address settings, and power cycle the system.
Checking Wiring Connections
Inspect terminals 4, 5, 6, and 7 on the main Vista 128BPT board and at the device:
- Terminal 4: Red (+12V Power)
- Terminal 5: Black (Ground / Aux Neg)
- Terminal 6: Data In (Yellow)
- Terminal 7: Data Out (Green)
Look for loose screws, broken wires, or short circuits along the wire run. Ensure combined wire lengths do not exceed 2,000 feet.
Verifying Device Addresses
- Keypads and touchscreens must match an address enabled in the Vista 128BPT panel programming (using
*189or device programming via*93menu mode). - Ensure no two devices share the same address on the ECP bus.
- If using a touchscreen device, access its local settings menu to verify that its assigned ECP address matches what the control panel expects.
Power Cycling the System
- Disconnect the backup battery’s red wire and unplug the transformer AC power.
- Wait about 1 to 2 minutes for all power to completely drain and the screen or keypad to go blank.
- Reconnect AC power first, then reconnect the battery to reboot the communication bus.
