Vista – Backdoor access

Backdooring a VISTA System is a useful technique when you don’t have the Installer Code. This method allows you to regain programming access, enabling you to modify the Installer Code and eventually return to programming. However, it’s important to be aware that certain system programming options can prevent you from accessing programming entirely, even if you attempt to regain access using the backdoor method.

Power down the system

To completely power down the system, disconnect the backup battery and unplug the transformer.

Power the system back on

First, plug in the battery, and then connect the transformer to power the system back on.

Access the programming

As soon as you notice any activity on the keypad, press and hold the * and # keys simultaneously. Keep holding them down until the screen displays either “Installer Code 20” or simply “20”. This indicates that you have successfully bypassed the system’s security measures and gained access to the programming interface. However, this process must be completed within 50 seconds of the system’s initial power-up for it to be effective.

Change the installer code

To enter the installer code change field, type the command *20. Then, enter 4112 to set the code to the default. The keypad will beep three times to confirm that the new Installer Code has been successfully set.

Exit the programming

To exit the programming, enter the *99 command. Ensure you exit using *99 instead of *98 to avoid the need to perform the backdoor method again.
