Lynx 5100/5200: Back door programming access

To regain access to “backdoor” programming on a Honeywell LYNX Touch L5210 panel, you must execute a specific power-cycle sequence and button press combination to bypass a lost installer code.

This method becomes necessary when the installer code has been altered, and the option to permit re-entry into programming has been set to “no.” It’s crucial to perform this process promptly and in the correct sequence.

Accessing security systems without proper authorization can have serious legal consequences.

  1. Reboot the system

There are two methods to reboot a LYNX Touch. The first method involves selecting the menu option. From the main screen, navigate to Security, More, Tools, Master Code, Test, and Reboot. Click on “Yes” to initiate the reboot process.

If you’re unaware of the Master Code, you can power down the system using the conventional method. Open the panel, disconnect the backup battery, and unplug the transformer. This will power down the system. Reconnect the transformer to start the reboot process.

2. Press and hold the Home button

Immediately after the panel lights up, press and hold the Home button. You’ll need to keep this button pressed for several moments. The message “System Standby” will appear, accompanied by a red bar at the top. Keep holding the Home button during this time. Eventually, the bar will turn green and display the words “Ready to Arm.” Alternatively, the bar may turn yellow if there’s an issue. You can release the button once the upper bar turns green or yellow.

Note: If you have an older Honeywell LYNX Touch System, such as a Honeywell L5100, press and hold the unlock button on the front panel until the red “System Standby” bar at the top appears. Hold the button until the bar turns green and the message “Ready to Arm” appears. Release the button and immediately press it again. Then, enter “Clear” followed by “00”. This will take you to the Installer Menu, allowing you to enter programming. In this case, you can skip Step 3. Remember, this only applies to the older style of LYNX Touch Systems.

3. Clear the lockout

Immediately after releasing the home button, press “Security” followed by “Arm Stay”. This must be done swiftly. If successful, a keypad will appear. Press the “Clear” button located in the bottom-left corner. Then, enter “00”. You will now be in the Installer Menu.

4. Enter the programming

Choose “Program.” This will take you to the programming section. If needed, you can use this opportunity to revert the Installer Code back to 4112. To exit programming, use the return arrow in the upper-right corner. Make sure to select “Yes” when prompted to allow the Installer to re-enter programming this time!
