Removing a zone from a 2GIG security system is a standard maintenance task, typically performed when a sensor has failed, a door or window has been permanently sealed, or you are reorganizing your system’s layout. Because 2GIG has released several distinct panel generations over the years—ranging from the original GC2 (GoControl) to the more modern GC3 and the latest 2GIG Edge—the exact interface steps vary slightly between models.
2GIG Edge
The 2GIG Edge features a high-resolution touchscreen and an updated menu structure. Deleting a zone on this panel is referred to as “resetting” the zone.
- Enter Settings: On the main home screen, tap the Gear icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Access Installer Toolbox: Enter your Installer Code (the factory default is 1561). Scroll down through the settings menu and select Installer Toolbox.
- Navigate to Programming: Tap Panel Programming, then select Wireless Zones (or Built-In Zones if you are removing the internal glass break or a wired contact).
- Select the Zone: You will see a list of zones on the left side of the screen. Scroll through and tap the specific zone you wish to remove (e.g., “Zone 3 – Back Door”).
- Perform the Reset: Once the zone details are displayed on the right, look for the red Reset Zone button in the bottom-left corner. Tap it, then confirm by tapping Reset on the confirmation prompt.
- Save and Exit: Use the Return Arrow in the top-right corner to back out. The panel will automatically save your changes as you return to the home screen.
2GIG GC3 / GC3e (The Intermediate Model)
The GC3 series uses a similar but slightly older graphical user interface compared to the Edge.
- Enter Installer Menu: Tap the 2GIG logo in the top-right corner and enter your Installer Code (default 1561).
- Open System Configuration: Tap System Configuration, then select Wireless Zones.
- Find the Zone: Highlight the specific zone you want to remove from the list.
- Delete the Zone: Tap the Trash Can icon associated with that zone. The panel will ask if you want to reset the wireless zone; select Reset to confirm.
- Finalize: Tap Return to System Configuration, then the back arrow. Critically, you must select Save when prompted to ensure the zone is permanently removed.
2GIG GC2 / GC2e (The Original GoControl)
The GC2 uses a more traditional, menu-driven interface with “Question” numbers (e.g., Q1 for zones).
- Enter Configuration: Tap the 2GIG logo (bottom-right), enter the Installer Code (1561), and select System Configuration.
- Locate the Zone: Use the Right Arrow to scroll through the zone numbers until you reach the one you want to remove (e.g., “Sensor 04”).
- Disable the Sensor Type: Press the Down Arrow once to access the “Sensor Type.” Use the Left Arrow until the type is set to (00) Unused.
- Clear the Serial Number: Press the Down Arrow until you reach the RF Sensor ID (the 7-digit TXID). Clear this field or replace it with 0000000 to ensure the panel stops monitoring that specific hardware.
- Save Changes: Press End, then ensure the Save Changes box is checked before pressing Exit. The panel will reboot briefly to update its configuration.
Tips
- Default Codes: If 1561 does not work, the previous installer may have changed it. In some cases, the Master Code (default 1111) can access the Toolbox but may not allow “Panel Programming” changes depending on the firmware version.
- Bypassing vs. Deleting: If you only need to ignore a sensor temporarily (e.g., a broken window sensor while you wait for a replacement), you should Bypass the zone instead of deleting it. Bypassing can be done via the Bypass Sensors menu using the Master Code and is automatically cleared the next time the system is disarmed.
- Life Safety Zones: Note that most 2GIG panels treat smoke and carbon monoxide detectors differently; while they can be deleted through the same menus, they generally cannot be “bypassed” for safety reasons.
