2GIG: Check the cellular connection

To check the cellular connection on your 2GIG control panel, you need to run a cellular test from the panel’s toolbox menu. The exact steps may vary slightly depending on your specific model (GC2, GC3, or Edge).

For 2GIG GC2/GC2e Panels

  1. From the home screen, tap Security.
  2. Tap Menu, then tap Toolbox.
  3. Enter your 4-digit Master Code or Installer Code (default is often 1561).
  4. Navigate to the third page of the Toolbox by pressing the Next arrow button twice.
  5. Tap the Cell Phone Test button.
  6. Enter your code again to start the test.
  7. Wait for the result. A “Test Passed” message indicates a successful connection, often displaying signal strength (e.g., in bars or dBm values).

For 2GIG Edge Panels

  1. From the home screen, tap the Settings icon (gear icon) in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Enter the Installer Code (default is often 1561).
  3. Tap Installer Toolbox, then tap System Tests.
  4. Tap Cell Radio Test & Status.
  5. In the menu, tap the blue “Test Cell Radio” button.
  6. The test will run and display results regarding signal strength and status.

Interpreting the Results

  • Test Passed/Successful: The cellular module is communicating properly with the network and Alarm.com.
  • Signal Strength: A signal strength of 3 out of 5 bars or higher is generally considered good.
  • Test Failed/No Signal: The panel could not connect. This may require troubleshooting, such as power-cycling the panel, checking the module installation, ensuring the firmware is up to date, or contacting your monitoring provider for activation status.

Note: The cellular module must be activated with a monitoring service plan for the test to pass successfully. If the “Cell Phone Test” option is missing or greyed out, the panel may not detect an installed cellular module or requires a firmware update.
