PowerSeries Neo: Add touchscreen keypad

Adding a touchscreen keypad to your DSC PowerSeries Neo system involves a physical wiring process followed by auto-enrollment in the system’s programming.

Physical Installation and Wiring

Before starting, ensure the system is completely powered down. Disconnect the backup battery and unplug the main transformer.

  1. Open the keypad: Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently separate the front of the keypad from its backplate.
  2. Run the wire: Feed a 4-conductor wire (18 or 22-gauge is recommended) through the hole in the keypad’s backplate.
  3. Wire the keypad terminals: Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the back of the keypad:
    • R (Red) to R
    • B (Black) to B
    • Y (Yellow, or white if yellow is unavailable) to Y
    • G (Green) to G
  4. Connect to the main panel: Run the other end of the wire to the main PowerSeries Neo control panel’s enclosure. Connect the wires to the matching terminals on the main board: RED, BLK, YEL, and GRN.
  5. Power on the panel: Once all connections are secure, power the panel back on by plugging in the transformer and then reconnecting the backup battery. The new keypad should light up.

Keypad Enrollment

If this is your first keypad, a message prompting you to “Press Any Key to Enroll” might appear. For additional keypads, you will need to enroll it via an existing keypad:

  1. Enter Installer Programming: From an existing alphanumeric keypad, enter * + 8 + Installed Code (default is 5555).
  2. Access System Enrollment Mode: Enter section 902 for System Enrollment Mode.
  3. Auto-Enroll: Enter 000 to auto-enroll any newly connected keypads and modules.
  4. Exit Programming: The new touchscreen keypad should display the main system screen. Press the # key repeatedly on the existing keypad to exit programming mode.

Assigning Keypad Partitions

By default, the keypad will likely be assigned to Partition 1. If you need to change this:

  1. Enter Programming from the new touchscreen keypad by pressing * + 8 + Installer Code.
  2. Check the Keypad Slot: Enter programming field 860 to see which Keypad Slot number (01-16) was automatically assigned to the new keypad. Note this two-digit number.
  3. Select the Partition Mask: Press # once to return to the last screen, then enter the programming field corresponding to your slot number (e.g., 861 for Slot 1, 862 for Slot 2, etc.).
  4. Assign Partitions: Press * to confirm “Kypd Part. Mask”. Use the arrow keys to select the desired partition(s) and press * to confirm each selection. To make the keypad a “Global Keypad” (controlling all partitions), enter 00.
  5. Exit: Press # repeatedly to save changes and exit programming.
