Lynx 5xxx: Program 5816

To program a Honeywell 5816 wireless sensor on a LYNX 5210 panel, you will need to access the system’s programming menu using the installer code and then configure the zone settings.

Access the Zone Programming Menu

  1. From the home screen, press Security.
  2. Press More (if applicable to your specific L5210 panel version).
  3. Select Tools.
  4. Enter the Installer Code (the default is 4112).
  5. Select Program.
  6. Select Zones. You are now in the Zone Programming Menu.
  7. Select an available zone number you wish to program, then press Edit.

Enroll the Sensor Serial Number

In the zone settings screen, you can enroll the serial number in one of two ways:

  • Auto-Enroll (Recommended): Select the Serial Number field on the screen. The panel will begin searching for a device. Fault and restore the sensor three times (separate the magnet from the contact, then bring it back together, repeating three times) to automatically enroll the 7-digit serial number.
  • Manual Entry: Manually enter the 7-digit serial number printed on the side of the 5816 sensor, then press Done.

Configure Zone Settings

Once the serial number is enrolled, adjust the following settings for the 5816 sensor. The primary function of the 5816 as a door/window contact uses Loop 2, while the hardwired terminals on the device use Loop 1.

  • Loop Number: Change to Loop 2 for standard wireless door/window operation. Select Loop 1 if using an external hardwired contact wired to the 5816 terminals.
  • Device Type: Select the appropriate device type (e.g., “Window”, “Door”).
  • Response Type: Choose how the system reacts when the sensor is triggered (e.g., “Entry-Exit 1”, “Perimeter”, “Resident Monitor”, “General Response”).
  • Zone Description: Use the pre-programmed location names to give the zone a clear spoken description.
  • Alarm Report: Set whether the alarm report is sent to the central monitoring station (if applicable).

Save and Test

  1. Press Save in the bottom-right corner of the screen when finished programming.
  2. Exit programming and return to the home screen.
  3. Test the sensor to ensure it was programmed correctly by arming the system or placing it in test mode and faulting the contact (opening the door/window).
