To program a Honeywell 5828 keypad, you first need to set a matching RF House ID on your security system’s main panel, then press and hold the 1 and 3 buttons on the keypad for five seconds to enter programming mode.
From there, you will program the keypad to match the panel’s House ID, and you can also adjust other settings like system type, exit delay, and function keys before exiting programming mode.
Program the main control panel
- Access the installer programming menu on your main control panel (e.g., LYNX Touch).
- Enter the installer code (default is 4112) and navigate to System Type or a similar menu.
- Locate the RF House Code setting and enter a two-digit number between 01 and 31.
- Save the setting and exit the programming menu on the panel.
Program the 5828 keypad
- Wake up the keypad: If the display is off, press and hold the * key to wake it up.
- Enter programming mode: Press and hold the 1 and 3 keys for five seconds. The display will show alternating “00” and “-“.
- Set the House ID: Press 1 to enter the House ID menu, then enter the same two-digit number you chose in the previous step, and press the * key to confirm.
- Set system type: Press 2 to access the system type menu. You may need to confirm a specific setting, such as “2” for LYNX mode, by pressing 2 and then *.
- Exit programming mode: Press the * key to save your changes and exit programming mode. The keypad should now show AC and chime, indicating it’s ready.
Test the keypad
Use a user code to disarm the system from the keypad to verify it is working correctly.
